Street Meat

Every day when leaving the office to get lunch, I am always immediately drawn to the wonderful smells coming from Rafiqui’s street cart on 33rd and Park. However, in the interests of my stomach, I usually keep on walking and find somewhere else to go (usually, Gigi Cafe, Silo, Sophies or the Murray Hill Market). Every few months however when I can’t take it any longer, I stop at Rafiqui’s and get the lamb over rice. It really does taste as amazing as it smells. My suggestion: don’t be afraid of the street meat every now and then.

UPDATE: As of November, 2007, Rafiqui’s on 33rd and Park has a brand new, shiny cart where the workers can stand “inside” behind a counter.

I agree, they have some of the tastiest lamb street meats around, and (more importantly) their food doesn’t upset the stomach.

This is my favorite cart, ever.

Afraid of street meat? Never! Change that “every few months” to “every few days” if you know what’s best. I’m off to the halal cart downstairs now for some breakfast.
